Industry voices.

What practitioners are really talking about, on forums, in podcasts and at trade shows. Community monitoring: Reddit, T-Shirt Forums, Discord, YouTube, the trade press.

The topics that keep coming back

DTF is eating everything
Buying advice and DTF vs DTG/screen debates dominate forums and year-in-review pieces; 65.7% of decorators already offer DTF. DTG is repositioning upmarket; Kornit CEO Ronen Samuel at FESPA 2024, in Nessan Cleary’s report: “We are in a different league.”
AI's double edge
Sellers are drowning in AI-listing competition on Etsy, while end customers are starting to ask for “hand-drawn”. At the same time, those very shops use AI for mockups and prepress.
Trust in cheap machines
Clogged white-ink nozzles, dead budget DTF machines and the Procolored scandal (malware in drivers for ~6 months) have turned “buyer beware” into a content genre of its own.
“Is POD dead?”
A recurring debate. The consensus: dead for generic spam, alive for niche brands with original design. The market as a whole is growing ~23–25% a year.
Consolidation and price pressure
Unease after the Printful+Printify merger (less competition = higher prices?), complaints about uneven quality across the networks' partner print shops.
Labor shortage → automation
Carleen Gray, CEO of GroupeSTAHL: “tight labor markets and rising operating costs are accelerating the shift toward automation and digital workflows”. Jayson Tompkins, chief digital officer at STAHLS’, in Screen Printing: 2026 is the year decorators who invested in automation and connectivity “will start to pull away from those who haven’t”.
Tariffs and supply-chain regionalization
The 2025 tariff shock (end of de minimis) is shifting sourcing nearer and local; commentary from STAHLS', Epson and ColDesi agrees on the direction.
Sustainability: standard or greenwash
At FESPA it is already a “baseline expectation”, but the community quietly questions DTF's footprint (PET film, PU adhesives). Sara Osorio, EHS affairs coordinator at PRINTING United Alliance, on the Orlando sustainability panel: “Looking at sustainability in the short term is only going to be a detriment.”

Cautionary tale Procolored: malware in DTF printer drivers

The budget DTF manufacturer distributed malware-laced drivers (including a Bitcoin stealer) for ~6 months — a YouTube reviewer caught it, and security firm G DATA confirmed it. The case deeply shook trust in cheap machines across decorator communities and sent “buyer beware” threads soaring on the forums.
