Glossary → Wrap seam

Wrap seam.

the line where the two ends of a wrapped print meet, which on a mug sits under the handle

The place where the ends of a print that goes round an object meet. On a full-wrap mug 4OVER4 says the two short ends of the band are where the wrap closes, and on the finished mug that seam sits under the handle; it also says the handle eats both ends of the wrap and that a logo at either end ends up half behind the ceramic. Vistaprint notes that most full-wrap prints meet near the handle, advises against faces, intricate patterns or vertical lines right at the seam, and says tiny shifts are most noticeable there. Neither page gives a measurement for the zone. The handle zone works like a safe area, and its size comes from the template, which belongs to the platform and the mug. A design with the focal point at the template edge puts it behind the handle on the first mug off the line.
