UV rotary printing.
printing UV ink around a cylindrical or tapered object as it turns on a rotary attachment
A rotary attachment holds the object and turns it under the print head of a UV printer, so the artwork wraps all the way round. Mimaki's Kebab HS prints 360 degrees while the cylinder rotates on a shaft that fixes the object, takes diameters of 50 to 100 mm (2.0 to 3.9 in) and lengths of 30 to 300 mm (1.2 to 11.8 in, up to 280 mm with the adaptor), and handles tapers of 0 to 7.5 degrees. On a tapered object the print area compresses from the large diameter to the small one, which compresses the print as well; the RasterLinkTools plug-in corrects the warp. Mimaki's how-to for the Kebab says the data needs no registration marks, cut lines or margins, may be EPS, JPEG, PDF or TIFF, and gives the circumference as the diameter times 3.14 mm. The file is sized to the object, not to a template for a flat press. It is the process behind the UV rotary row in the drinkware guide, and a file made for flatbed UV does not carry over unchanged.
