Xerox is returning to Xeikon for digital press technology, and the two reports landing this week frame it as an integration rather than a one-off supply deal: Xeikon technology built into Xerox’s upcoming presses. For anyone running a shop floor, the practical question is not the corporate handshake but what it does to your next capital decision. A Xerox-badged press carrying Xeikon dry toner internals changes the service conversation, the consumables chain and the operator retraining you budget for. If you have been holding a quote while you wait to see which platform your Xerox rep will actually be selling in twelve months, this is the signal to reopen it. It also means shops already running Xeikon kit should ask where their support sits once the same technology ships under a second badge.

Inkcups marks 25 years of direct-to-object rotary inkjet at PRINTING United. Two and a half decades is a long run in a category that most shops still treat as specialist work, and the anniversary is worth reading as a maturity marker: promotional and industrial object decorating has had time to settle into repeatable process rather than experiment. If you have been quoting cylindrical work by feel, the installed base behind a 25-year platform is the argument for standardising it.

Sun Chemical is showing digital inkjet ink portfolios spanning textile, packaging and industrial applications. Ink supply is where a lot of shop-floor pain actually lives, and a single supplier covering three application families matters for anyone running mixed work off separate chemistries. Watch for what the portfolio says about substrate coverage before you read it as a consolidation opportunity.

The Magic Transfer Company has upgraded its entry-level DTF printer for short-run apparel decorators. Entry-level is the right phrase to keep in view: this is aimed at shops doing small batches, not at replacing a production line. The upgrade path matters most to decorators who bought in early and are now hitting throughput limits on runs they did not expect to keep repeating.

Domino’s N410 digital LED inkjet label press makes its North American debut. Label shops watching the digital crossover point now have another LED inkjet option to price against their existing flexo work. The debut is regional, which means service coverage and installed references in North America are still being built out. Ask about both.

Graphics and Marketing has earned Color-Logic certification on a Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14010S. Certification on a named press model is the useful detail here, because it tells other C14010S owners that the metallic and special-effect workflow has been validated on their exact hardware rather than on a generic platform. That is the difference between a sales claim and something you can plan a job around.

OnPrintShop is showing AI-driven web-to-print tools at PRINTING United 2026. Web-to-print is where order-entry labour quietly accumulates, so the question to put to the demo is which specific step the AI removes: artwork preflight, quoting, product configuration, or none of them clearly. Treat unspecified AI claims as unpriced until someone walks you through the actual workflow.

Roland DG launched Dimense Surface, a digital textured wallcovering media, at the London Design Festival. Textured wallcovering sits at the interface print shops keep losing to specialist interiors suppliers, and a media launch aimed at design-week buyers signals where the demand is being cultivated. Wide-format shops with interiors clients should check compatible printer and finishing requirements before pitching it.

The Parently Group is launching a trade ordering portal for customised apparel and schoolwear. Schoolwear is seasonal, high-volume and administratively heavy, which makes it one of the better candidates for pushing ordering off email and spreadsheets. For trade decorators, the thing to evaluate is whether the portal reduces your order-entry time or simply moves the same data cleanup to a different screen.

Trotec Laser has announced the Speedy Black Line laser engraving and cutting systems. Laser engraving keeps widening its overlap with print finishing, personalisation and signage, and a new system line is worth pricing against the outsourcing you currently do. The specifics that decide it are bed size, extraction and material range, so get those before the demo impresses you.

PRINTING United Expo 2026 returns to Las Vegas, with preview coverage across digital wide-format, apparel decorating and industrial print. Several of this week’s launches converge there, so it is worth building a walk list rather than a wander. Book the meetings you actually need with existing suppliers first; the discovery stands can fill whatever is left.

Verdict of the week

The claim doing the rounds is that Little CMS has unveiled a mobile ICC profiling app for digital colour calibration workflows. That is ✗ False. The app, calc ICC, imports ICC profiles that already exist and uses them for conversion, soft proofing and gamut checking, which is not the same as building or calibrating a profile; the reporting frames it explicitly as conversion and verification work. Describing it as a profiling app for calibration workflows misstates what the tool actually does, and any shop expecting to calibrate a device from a phone will be disappointed.
