Purge cycle.
a forced flush of ink through the printhead nozzles
A forced flush of ink through the printhead nozzles, run to clear a clog before it turns into a visible streak on the print. It is the active maintenance move an operator runs before or during a job, distinct from ink recirculation, which is passive and constant, and running purges too often just burns ink for no quality gain.
