Gallery wrap.
canvas stretched around the sides of the bars so the piece hangs without a frame
A stretching method where the printed canvas carries on over the edges of the stretcher bars and is fastened on the back, so the piece hangs frameless with no staples in view. What has to be settled at file preparation rather than at the bench is that everything wrapped around the sides leaves the front: the loss on each edge is the depth of the bar plus the fold onto the back, so the image is either composed with that margin or extended by mirroring or cloning before it goes to print. Trim to the visible size and the wrap has nothing to fold over. Compose without the margin and heads, signatures and logos end up on the side of the bar, and since the canvas is already printed and coated, the fix is a full reprint and a second stretch.
