Glossary → Cut line (cut contour)

Cut line (cut contour).

the vector path a sticker cutter follows, flagged by a spot colour name

The path the cutter follows. StickerApp defines it as the path the machine follows when it cuts the sticker, so it decides the final shape, and asks for a fully closed vector shape drawn as a 1 pt stroke in 100% magenta spot colour named "die cut". The name that marks the path differs by shop and RIP. Mimaki RasterLink 7 reads the spot colour prefixed "CutContour", and allows a suffix so one file can hold several cut paths with different cutting conditions. Sticker Mule recommends a 0.05 to 1 pt magenta stroke and says the line does not need to be on a separate layer or named "cut line". The Fiery XF procedure asks for a closed contour, a stroke with no fill, and Overprint Stroke (see overprint). One file does not satisfy all of these without renaming the swatch. A path with the wrong name is either ignored by the cutter or printed as a magenta line.
