the Fine Art Trade Guild's registration scheme for digital fine art prints
The Fine Art Trade Guild's scheme for registering digital fine art prints that meet its print standards, used by printers and artists to back a limited-edition or archival claim with something a buyer can check. The Guild lists the requirements: lightfastness of 6 or more on the Blue Wool Scale in all areas of the print, a substrate pH of 7-9, a substrate of at least 250 gsm, and only inks approved by the printer manufacturer, from materials tested in a UKAS laboratory or an international equivalent. It sets no ink count. The mistake is selling prints as archival or museum grade on the strength of the paper box alone. When a customer or a gallery asks for the test data behind the claim, a shop that cannot produce it has to pull the wording from every listing that used it, and refund whoever bought on it.
