“DTG files should be CMYK to prevent unexpected colour shifts on the finished product”

When this claim was collected on 2026-10-19, Fourthwall's DTG artwork guide listed the colour profile as CMYK. The same page now says the opposite: save art in sRGB and do not convert it to CMYK yourself, because printers convert to CMYK during production and PNG files cannot store CMYK. Printful's help centre independently recommends sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and warns that CMYK uploads can reduce colour information. Both sources, the claimant's current page included, contradict the claim.

The span it rests on

Don't convert your artwork to CMYK yourself: printers convert to CMYK during production, and PNG files can't store CMYK.

The rating stands; our quote did not. Fourthwall reworded its colour-profile line after we published: the clause "converting it yourself can shift colors" is no longer on the page. The quote and the reasoning now carry its current wording, which still says sRGB and no conversion to CMYK. Printful's page, re-read the same day, still says converting to CMYK before uploading can reduce the colour information.
